Dance Fuel

I danced in public on Friday. Somehow, after years of being too self-conscious to dance with anyone watching except a mirror. But Friday was the Dia de los Muertos party in the Student Union, and the fabulous March Fourth marching band played the kind of music that you can’t help but dance to. So I danced my heart out. In fact, I don’t think I was any worse than any of the other flailing bodies — perhaps ‘free-style’ would be a more dignified word — and I had a blast! My only faux-pas was dropping the crowd-surfing skeleton.

Saturday Jacob’s mom took us out to dinner at the most delicious Indian restaurant, The India Grill. We all ate entirely too much food and went home very happy indeed. Last night Jacob made stake, string beans, and orzo with mushrooms, onions, and garlic. Though I did not partake of the red meat, I’ve expanded my palate enough to thoroughly enjoy the vegetables. My contribution to the meal was a batch of molasses spice cookies from Smitten Kitchen, with honey substituted for sugar and apple juice and oil substituted for butter. The batter was completely liquid, but dripping a few blobs onto the baking sheet resulted in some mighty-fine cookies that smelled divine all day.

Finally, as I can’t seem to write enough fiction to participate in NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), I’ve decided to write more blog entries instead.

Good on ya! Alice was visiting this weekend, and I took her to our dance class, which was fun. Dull, boring ballroom stuff, you know – swing is my favorite, and I’ll look forward to the class moving to more advanced stuff. Dance is fun! Watch “Save the Last Dance” sometime, if you haven’t seen it.
