For occasions of gift-giving, I really do appreciate small thoughtful things like hugs, cards, and handmade gifts. Perhaps that’s because I hope others will accept small things from me, but also because I do not want to accumulate stuff — even stuff I like! — when I have little ability to store or move it. So a few suggestions:
- Kitchen and house things: a fancy-pants stick blender, flour mill, knife sharpener, countertop oven, or a source of spice
- Pretty graphic novels: Flight 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, or Rice Boy
- Wooden toys: Kubb or Balancing Cactus!
- Dark Chocolate — fair-trade and organic, the darker the better!
- Donations toward my website hosting
- Compassionate Cooks membership
- Go vegan for a month!
Or instead of buying me something, I would love it if you could make a donation in my name:
- Solar Electric Light Fund — help the developing world develop sustainably
- Central Asia Institute — build schools, not bombs
- Free Software Foundation — protect your digital freedom
- Nature Conservancy — save our wild spaces
- Food for Life — give vegetarian food to hungry people
- Fruit Tree Planting Foundation — grow fruit, the gift that keeps on giving
